Drashti Dhami was born on 10 January 1985 to a Gujarati family in Mumbai. Drashti Dhami family also has her elder brother Jaysheel Dhami who used to be an IT engineer but has tried his hand at acting as well. Interestingly, he was also seen shaking a leg with his wife Suhasi Dhami in popular dance reality show Nach Baliye season 5.
Drashti Dhami hails from a very conservative Gujarati family and was the only girl in the family at the time. She was actually a tomboy when she was young and had short curly hair.
Drashti Dhami attended Mary Immaculate Girl's High School.
Drashti was always interested in cultural activities. In school she used to take part in cultural activities, especially dance and drama. She later went to Mumbai's Mithibai College where she earned her graduate degree in Sociology.
Drashti Dhami was always interested in dancing and has learnt Bharatnatyam for 3 years. She had also joined Shaimak Davar's classes but never really thought to take it up as a profession.
Before starting as an actor, Drashti Dhami was a popular model and had done a number of advertisements. Her first TV commercial was for Tata Indicom. She later did advertisements for a lot of brands like Colgate (toothpaste) with Saif Ali Khan, Lion Honey and Amul. Drashti Dhami also got featured in various music videos like Saiyaan Dil Mein Aana Re and Teri Meri Nazar Ki Dori. She also starred in a Punjabi music video.
With her modeling career going well, Drashti Dhami started getting offers to act but initially she was not prepared for the grueling schedule of the TV industry. But when the right time came, she finally took the plunge and made her debut as Dr. Muskaan Chadda in Dill Mill Gayye. She considers the show as a very special experience for her.
Drashti Dhami brush withstardom happened with her second show as Geet in Geet Hui Sabse Parayi which made her a household name. She was offered the role of madhubala opposite Vivian dsena in the Colors TV serial Madhubala – Ek ishk Ishq Ek Junoon. The show brought Drashti Dhami widespread acclaim and massive popularity. It established her as one of the top actresses in Indian
TV industry.
Later Drashti Dhami has gone on to do shows like Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, and Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil. Drashti Dhami’s performances across years have made her one of the highest earning television actresses in India.
